Another test of dilapidated communication systems in the center of Riga led to a serious road collapse. In the morning rush hour, right on Gertrudes street, two cars fell through the paving stones. It happened in a matter of seconds, and the drivers didn't even have time to react. As a result, the Mercedes and BMW cars remained at a depth of about one and a half meters. But not everything is so bad, because one car was even able to get out of the trap on its own.As it turned out, the reason for the failure was dilapidated communications, which are more than half a century old. As a result of hydraulic testing, a break occurred. This caused the formation of a pit, which appeared as a result of the impact on the ground by a strong flow of water under pressure.
On June 9, all the consequences of the accident were eliminated. According to eyewitnesses, there are no signs that there was once a landslide. But it is worth noting that Gertrudes street will appear in our news more than once, as communications that are more than 57 years old will break through again and again. It is high time for the authorities to take measures to update them.
